Sizing over AFOs and braces

The short version: measure the foot with the brace on (heel to toe and across the widest part) and send us those measurements, plus their regular shoe size without the brace. We'll tell you what to order. Email support@wearzipped.com.

Why it's different

A brace adds length and width to the foot, so the shoe they wear without it usually won't close over it. The zipper opens the shoe wide enough to get the brace in. The shoe still has to be big enough to hold it once it's zipped.

How to pick a size

  1. Measure with the brace on. Foot and brace together, heel to toe and across the widest part.
  2. Start from their size without the brace, then go up. Most of our brace customers go up 1 to 2 sizes.
  3. Watch the width. When a pair doesn't zip over a brace, width is the reason almost every time, across the ball of the foot. Most Nike and Jordan styles don't come in wide. Wide widths are available on many of our other styles; check the product page for your shoe.
  4. Need more room? Some parents take the insole out.
  5. Between sizes? Go up.

Still not sure? Email us the measurements with the brace on and their regular size. We answer these every week.

One brace, one foot

We can't do two different sizes in one pair yet. It's something we're working toward.

If it doesn't fit, we swap it

The Zipped Fit Guarantee: if your pair doesn't fit, we'll exchange it within 30 days of delivery, and we cover return shipping in the US. One exchange per order.

Prefer a refund? Same window, same terms. Outside the US, we'll still do the exchange, but return shipping is on you.

For orthotists, PTs and OTs

If you fit braces, feel free to send families here. A family can email us measurements with the brace on and their child's regular size, and we'll size the pair with them before they order.
