Your Questions: Answered

Who is Zipped for?

Anyone whose circumstances make traditional shoes difficult, painful, or impossible. That includes people with physical disabilities, mobility limitations, conditions affecting fine motor skills, and more. It also includes parents buying for their kids and adults buying for themselves — both are welcome here.

Who started Zipped?

Aaron, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). He built Zipped because he wanted to wear the shoes everyone else was wearing.

How does made-to-order work?

We don't keep standing inventory. When you place an order, we source your size and do the modification. That's why the price covers both the shoe and the zipper work — it's one order, built for you.

How long does it take?

4-6 weeks from purchase date – unless you pay for Rush. Then 2-3 weeks.

Are these real Nike/Jordan/Adidas/etc. shoes?

Yes. Every pair is an authentic brand-name shoe — sourced new, modified by hand. Not a replica. Not a knockoff. The real thing, with a zipper.

How does the modification work?

We install an industrial-grade zipper by hand. The zipper is built to last. This allows the shoes to open fully for easy on/off wear.

Will the zipper affect how the shoe looks?

We think it looks good, actually. But you can see exactly what to expect in our product photos — the modification is shown on every listing!

Do Zipped shoes work with braces like AFOs?

Yes. Many of our customers wear leg and foot braces, and our shoes work well for them. Because the brace adds length and width, most brace users size up to accommodate it. For the best fit, measure your foot while wearing the brace before ordering.

Can I buy two different size shoes?

Not yet — but it's something we're working toward.

Do you offer wide widths?

Yes, on many styles. Check the product page for your shoe — wide width availability is noted there.

Can I send in a shoe I already own?

Yes. That's our Send In program. If you've got a pair you love, we can modify it. Details are on the site. You can also request a shoe that isn’t on our website.

Why do the shoes cost what they do?

Because the price includes two things: an authentic brand-name shoe sourced new, and a hand-done zipper modification. You're not paying a premium for "adaptive" branding. You're paying for a real shoe and real craftsmanship. premium, high-quality, and built to last—we price them to reflect that level of craftsmanship and value.
